1. Wash in warm not hot water.
As tempting as it is to jump under a hot shower on cold days or dunk your hands in a hot sink of water to defrost, hot water can strip valuable oils from your skin drying it out even more.
2. Choose gentle moisturising cleansers
Use a gentle moisturising facial cleanser or balm and body wash. Cleansers can be drying, particularly gel cleansers, so opt for a lotion or a balm in the cooler months.
3. Exfoliate regularly
This has the benefit of removing the dead skin cells so your moisturiser can be more easily absorbed. I like to exfoliate my face twice a week with our Exfoliating Facial Lotion and use the Coconut and Vanilla Body Scrub daily. The Body Scrub has the benefit of moisturising (coconut oil) as well as exfoliating (Epsom salts).
4. Moisturise
Moisturise your face and body as soon as you finish washing and drying yourself. This helps to seal in some of the moisture from your shower or bath and stops your skin from becoming dehydrated.
5. Love your hands
Moisturise your hands regularly throughout the day and before going to bed. I love using Miss Magoo’s Rose Geranium Hand Lotion during the day, and the Hand & Heel Cream at night (I also slather it on my elbows and heels).
6. Apply lip balm daily.
Your lips need moisturising too!
7. Remember your night time routine
Your skin repairs itself at night, so even if you don’t wear makeup during the day, it is important that you wash your face at night to remove any dirt and dust that have accumulated during the day. Follow up with a moisturiser. For some extra TLC, you can use an eye cream and/or a facial elixir for extra hydration.
8. Hydrate from within
Drink plenty of filtered water. You need to hydrate from the inside as well as the outside. Eating lots of water-dense foods like celery, tomatoes and zucchini can help.
9. Cover up
Cover up with gloves, hats and scarves to protect yourselves from the weather.
10. Protect your skin
Apply sunscreen if you’re going out in the sun. Remember, you can still burn in winter!
